SailGP + Oracle

Imagine a Formula 1 grand prix on the water. That is SailGP. Eight 50-foot catamarans race at over 50 knots. Each boat is identical in build and equipment, the only thing separating winners from losers is how the crew performs. Oracle sponsors the league and outfits SailGP operations and each boat with data and analytics. My team got to tell the story.

We shot Ben Ainslie in mid-2021. Our approach was to film him in a conversation and capture real stories. Instead of reading a script, we just talked to Ben and asked him questions for about 30 minutes. (We covered a script too for safety but didn’t need it.) From that one interview we cut multiple pieces of content including this television commercial that airs on CBS broadcasts of SailGP races.

 

Sustainability Story

With footage from our Ben Ainslie shoot, and footage from a similar shoot with Russell Coutts, we made this video to promote SailGP’s commitment to sustainability. The Coutts interview was shot in the UK, two months before the Ben shoot in California. By using a similar approach we were able to seamlessly blend the two interviews into one piece of content.
